As we reported earlier on Twitter, a source tells USfanTV Cristian Roldan and Chris Wondolowski will make Bruce Arena’s 23-man roster for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers against Costa Rica and Honduras. So who makes the rest of the team? We have some guesses:
GOALKEEPERS: Tim Howard, Brad Guzan, Nick Rimando
No surprises on the first two choices, and Rimando will grab the third spot, according to several reports.
DEFENDERS: Geoff Cameron, Jorge Villafana, Omar Gonzalez (if healthy), Tim Ream, Timmy Chandler, Matt Hedges, Matt Besler, Graham Zusi
Cameron’s as much a lock as anyone on the team when he’s healthy. John Brooks and DeAndre Yedlin will both miss this round due to injury, but it looks like Omar Gonzalez will be ready. And, yes, we think Timmy Chandler gets a chance. If he doesn’t, we think Eric Lichaj gets that spot.
MIDFIELDERS: Cristian Roldan, Christian Pulisic, Michael Bradley, Darlington Nagbe, Kellyn Acosta, Paul Arriola, Alejandro Bedoya, Dax McCarty
We’re assuming Fabian Johnson misses this round due to his back injury, but if he’s healthy he’ll be out there. Our source tells us Roldan gets a spot. And we think this Pulisic kid from Dortmund may get some playing time.
FORWARDS: Bobby Wood, Jozy Altidore, Clint Dempsey, Chris Wondolowski
The first three aren’t surprises at all. As for the fourth spot, our source says Wondo is back in the saddle.
So that’s it. This is absolutely a good enough team to win the next two matches, but it’s CONCACAF, so anything can happen. The actual roster drops on Sunday, and we’re back Tuesday, when we’ll either be bragging about how close we got on this roster, or you guys can make fun of us for missing the mark.
