USfanTV Live: The new jersey, and who stands to gain the most at the Gold Cup?

We’re calling it the Evel Knievel jersey.

Even if we bomb out of the Gold Cup, the stars on the sleeves of the new USMNT kit make it perfect for jumping a motorcycle over a canyon or a row of school buses, so we’ll still have a use for these things.

Overall I like it, but this isn’t a jersey you throw on to run to Target when you’re a 37-year-old dad. This is a match day only shirt. But it’s so, so close to perfect. If you removed the stars from the sleeves, it might be my favorite jersey ever. Will I get it? Chris says he is for sure, but I don’t know. Apparently Nike’s only offering this in the authentic version–rather than the replica–so we’ll have to shell out $155. We’ll see.

As for the players who will be wearing it, we asked you on last night’s USfanTV Live for the player who stands to gain the most at the Gold Cup. Some popular choices:

  • Jesse Gonzalez–If the paperwork checks out, he could be the young guy we’ve been searching for to take over for Tim Howard and Brad Guzan
  • Kellyn Acosta–I think he cemented his role as the new and improved Jermaine Jones in Mexico City, but he could show even more here
  • Dom Dwyer–We’ve been waiting to see him in a US shirt for a long time. Is he an “only in MLS guy” (*cough*Wondo*cough), or can he bang in goals on the international stage? We’re pulling for him.

A little more than two weeks until we take the show on the road to Nashville for the Gold Cup opener against Panama. If you’re gonna be there, let us know!  In the meantime, we’ll see you guys Thursday night back on the YouTube channel.
