The USMNT goalkeeping situation appears to be back in safe hands after Secretary of Defense Tim Howard looked strong in his return from injury.
Howard and fellow national team goalkeeper candidate Luis Robles faced off as the Colorado Rapids took on Red Bulls in New York.
NYRB won 1-0, but not without some of the heroics Howard has become known for. From the first minute to the 72, Howard robbed Bradley Wright-Phillips three times, including a point-blank save 20 minutes in.
In fact, it was only a Colorado own goal that wrecked Howard posting a clean sheet despite 13 shots by NYRB.
Assuming Howard feels ok today, it seems likely that he’ll be between the sticks on March 24.
